about

"Don't be afraid"; it's a salty story of a crew trying to "ride out a tropical storm..... just off of 'Hurricane Beach' ", and their success with the help of a "mysterious ghost" up by an abandoned lighthouse.

It's a strong and harmonious folk rocker, which reminds me somewhat of The Beach Boys's version of 'Sloop John B.'.

lyrics

We were ridin' out a tropical storm right off of Hurricane Beach
one fateful night
We were hidin' out and tryin' to keep warm
anchored away from the reef
prayin' for the light.

Though the fog and the rain were blinding all of our eyes
and the waves were poundin' down on the coast,
we were searchin' for sky
when we all heard the cry
of what they say was the mysterious ghost
of Hurricane Beach.

Don't be afraid now
Don't be afraid

The rattled nerves of the crew were raw
and all at that moment saw
a sillouette with lantern in hand.
He pointed up toward a giant cliff
where we had just gone adrift
and showed a darkened lighthouse on land.

And with the beacon closed down
it was dark on the sound
and no one lived in that house anymore (almost)
We'd be dead on the rocks you see
if there hadn't happened to be
a mysterious ghost of Hurricane Beach.

Don't be afraid now
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid of the mysterious ghost
He keeps an eye on the hurricane coast

We were startled and scared to see
somewhat suspiciously
a bolt like a volt cross the bow
Just feet from the reef
we quickly hoisted the sheet
and came about just in time
'don't know how

We pushed off from a rock
as we were reelin' in shock
We heard the scrape down below
on the hull.

We sailed off and were saved
from that watery grave
giving thanks to that mysterious ghost
of Hurricane Beach.

Don't be afraid now
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid of that mysterious ghost
He keeps an eye on the hurricane coast
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid of the mysterious ghost.
