about

Written and recorded at Boo's studio in 2008, and then a few years later amended to include a 'tougher' guitar sound to compliment the great string arrangement created by David Floyd, this song was inspired by one of the 1950's TV episodes of 'The Adventures of Superman' titled "The Big Forget".

In that episode, all the Daily Planet usuals (including Clark Kent) are tied up in chairs in the bad-guys's basement while poisonous gas is released. This was a perilous occassion to be sure !

As the cast is coughing and gasping for air, we hear Lois Lane exclaim, "If we ever needed Superman, we need him now"! Don't worry, as Clark Kent realizes all his pals are about to die, he is heard to say, "Well..... I guess there's no sense in trying to keep this a secret any longer". To the amazement of his peers, Clark breaks his bonds and becomes 'Superman' right in front of their bedazzled eyes. "I can't believe it", we hear Perry White say. "Clark Kent really IS Superman".

So, I wrote an interpretation of that scene, wherein it's not about Superman per se, but about the speculative postulation of what constitutes a man to be 'super'. Thus, a Super Man. Certainly, in this age, it would seem logical to hear a crowd of citizens exclaim, "Man !!!!
We Need One NOW" !!!!

My favorite line is in the bridge where this is sung: "Man of Steel, you just keep on flying and we'll keep on looking up, up, up".

This is rockin' drama.

lyrics

The secret of a Super man is not just how he flies
It's not about kryptonite, or the X-rays from his eyes
He's an unintentional hero who asks nothing in return
But when it's 'countdown to zero',
there's a lesson we all learn.

If we ever need a Super Man
Man, we need one now !

To judge the wisdom of a Super Man
there is no simple test
The strength to hold his power back out of compassion for the rest
is not a character measured by a bullet or a gun,
but more of a treasure full of love for everyone.

If we ever need a Super Man
Man, we need one now !

And with a motto that is "keep on trying", we know you never will give up
Man of tomorrow, you just keep on flying and we'll keep on looking up,up,up.

The courage of a Super Man is deep within his heart
He's all about pulling together, not pulling all apart
The bravery that it takes to shake a hand and not a fist
The power to start things up when most would all but quit

If we ever need a Super Man
Man, we need one now !

The very strength of any Super Man is his strength to persavere
and the length to which this 'man that can' will go
to make our voices clear
With the will to encourage hope and change the way we feel
to leap over slippery slopes
like a mighty Man of Steel !

Oh, if we ever need a Super Man, man we need one now !
If we ever need a Super Man, man we need one now !
If we ever need a Super Man, Man...........
We need one now !!
