about

The intro is boppin', with 'Do It Again' style drums, electric guitar, bass and baritone sax. The great Tim Gordon ( who has played woodwinds with almost any big name artist or group you can think of ) played Baritone, Tenor and alto saxophone and as well as flutes.

The chord progression is something I had bouncing around in my head since the 1980's, when I wrote a song called "Smooth Ladies".

The perspective of 'Back In Hawaii' is that of a guy who recognizes that when he leaves Hawaii, he compares the 'stress and the strife' of the mainland, or the hangover of the 'party harty' in Rio de Janeiro, he only concludes that his cure (and his sweetheart) are 'back in Hawaii'.
I love this track . Its fun, as it was meant to be.

The chord progression for the choruses is simple and is in the Key of F major, with the song starting on the IV chord (Bb) . The change I like the best is when a verse begins and starts on a Bb minor chord, with lots of suspended and resolved chords.

lyrics

Back in Hawaii in aloha land
where a palm tree waves with a friendly hand
oh oh oh Back in Hawaii
Aloha waits for you

If you go back to the mainland
and you get caught up in the stress and the strife
It's good to remember in the deep of December
that you can still live such a beautiful life .....

Back in Hawaii in aloha land
where a palm tree waves with a friendly hand
Oh oh oh Back in Hawaii
where Aloha waits for you

You get that call and she's all you can think about
can't blink without a tear in your eye
You heard the ocean thunder, but never did she wonder
if she'd ever lose the love of her life

Back in Hawaii in aloha land
where a palm tree waves with a friendly hand
Oh Oh Oh Back in Hawaii
where Aloha waits for you

Fly down to Rio in South Brazil if you will
and party hardy at Carnivale
But you'll need to recover with your Hawaiian lover
live Aloha, think ohana until you're

Back in Hawaii in aloha land
where a palm tree waves with a friendly hand
Oh Oh Oh Back in Hawaii
where Aloha waits for you

Back in Hawaii !!
